Jimmy Maclean often pondered this question but never decided on an answer. It seemed to be a very important question as far as Jimmy was concerned. It was exactly the type of question eight year old boys were certain made the world go round.
Of course, the question was purely rhetorical. Jimmy Maclean wasn't going to Mars anytime soon and he wasn’t even sure he’d be able to ride a bike round up there. Still he liked to while away some time lying on the back porch when he should be in bed, staring at the stars and wondering which bike would be the best bike to take to Mars.
The more he thought about it, the more he favoured a BMX bike. He could imagine himself dodging rocks, sliding down dunes and jumping ravines. Well, small ravines. He also liked the idea of riding a mountain bike, just like the one his Dad rode.
However, he was not quite big enough to handle a mountain bike at the moment, and his Dad hadn't had much time to go bike riding lately with Jimmy. He often wondered if he was bigger and could ride a mountain bike whether his father might take more of an interest in him. He wished he would grow faster, but wishing wasn't the same as actually growing, and a mountain bike was still beyond his reach.
So a BMX it would be, with him riding it and conquering Mars, one pedal turn at a time.
