Goodbye to the wind and the sea and the
sky,
to all that lifted me up on high,
Farewell to the rally of gulls at dawn,
to kittywake cries and mewls forlorn,
I take my leave of this life lived long
and open my heart to an unknown song.
Goodbye to the mother who did her best
and nurtured me on her bitter breast.
Farewell harshest critic, you made me
strong,
my guide, my protector for so long.
I take my leave of the pain of
rejection,
give thanks for the source of my
deepest reflection.
Sometimes when I get a couple of prompts (or a couple of ideas) at the same time, I find that each magically feeds into the other. That is what happened here.
The first stanza was inspired by a prompt from Jill Badonsky in The Muse Is IN Writing Club.
The second stanza was inspired by a prompt from Helene Rose in Women Who Write Rock .
