Only in Boulder

http://www.normankoren.com
“Only in Boulder,” was my father’s favourite saying. I have no idea why - he was not American, had never been to Boulder, Colorado in the USA, or to any other Boulder that may exist here on this Earth.

I asked him about it once, but all he did was look at me thoughtfully for what seemed like a very long time. Finally he said, “You’d better go there and find out, my girl.”

Which wasn’t any help at all.

So it is now - with a great deal of bemusement - that I find myself sitting at LA airport waiting to catch a flight to Boulder. It was not my choice to go there; rather, my company had decided to send me there to train the staff of their newly opened US branch.

I’m hoping that there is something I see or experience that will prompt me to say “Only in Boulder”. I would like for my father’s quirky adherence to that saying to mean something. I would like to be able to tell him about it - that is if he could understand. Since Alzheimer’s invaded his being, he barely remembers me. There are moments of lucidity but those are few and far between.

I will tell him anyway and hope that something in his mind registers, and remembers that he once told me I should find out what can only happen in Boulder.
